Why I joined Atolio

After 5 years as an early investor and advisor for Atolio, I am honored to announce that I will be joining the company full time as their head of global sales and client success.

This is a life changing opportunity for me as it is a culmination of my career in technology working for start ups to successfully grow and scale their businesses by delivering real quantifiable business value to my customers. It is an opportunity for me to lean into my entrepreneurial spirit and help build the company I have always wanted to work at.

But what is truly exciting is to be able to do this in partnership with two of the smartest and hardest working professionals that I have ever had the privilege to work with in my career. With people I trust deeply, that share the same mindset and that I consider good friends.

Many years ago, Mark, David and I began talking about the concept for a company. How we wanted to build a company the “right way”. A company where the solution was built for the customer, that was made up of only the best and brightest people, a company that solved a really hard global problem, a company where the values and culture made it the place to be. A company built on trust, transparency, autonomy, winning and having fun. A company that was client obsessed.

Today, that vision becomes a reality as I join the bold and brilliant founders of Atolio: David Lanstein (CEO), Mark Matta (CRO) and Gareth Watts (CTO) in bringing foundational AI to the world’s knowledge workers.

Why Atolio?

We all became instantly smarter with the creation of the internet and the ability to fetch answers to any question imaginable with the creation of Google Search in 1998. All of the world’s knowledge became accessible to us in the click of a button. This was a true technological transformation in human history.

So why is it that 27 years later we still haven’t harnessed the power of this technology for work. Where we get paid to solve real problems and create ideas to change the world based on our skills and expertise.

The reason this has not occurred is because corporate knowledge must be retained and secured behind internal firewalls, Corporations need the ability to gate permissions and have finely tuned access control because of the confidential nature of their IP, company intelligence and industry compliance standards. Because there is no longer a single source of truth at work. Companies have invested in countless systems, tools and point solutions. The proliferation of data and tools inside of companies has hindered the ability for us to quickly and effectively search and retrieve this vast wealth of information. The result is institutional knowledge has become fragmented and siloed. Limiting the capabilities and potential of the modern knowledge worker. This is the problem we set out to solve.

We began our journey with the goal of being the search engine for your organization's unstructured data. Simply put: empowering employees to work better by connecting them to the organizational knowledge that’s trapped in their workplace applications (Google Drive, Microsoft 365, Slack, Atlassian, Salesforce, ServiceNow, etc..) As Atolio began designing our product we started building an enterprise search solution. However, over the past few years the industry has seen another major technological transformation as a result of the advancements in Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and Large Language Models (LLMs). Since enterprise search engines connect and integrate all the data across an organization’s tools, they offer an enormous opportunity to help organizations start to apply GenAI to their daily operations. So we incorporated AI into the creation of our solution.

Think of it like this, In conjunction with our search capabilities we can add ChatGPT. So instead of asking a model that’s trained on knowledge pulled from the internet, you’re asking a model that’s an expert on all the information your company has ever created. This could be messages in Slack or Teams, emails, tickets in Jira, pages in Confluence, presentations in Google docs, etc.

So today, Atolio can help enterprises use large language models (LLMs) to find answers privately and securely - becoming the foundational AI solution for safely making knowledge useful and accessible. By unifying your vendor silos and centralizing all of your public and permissioned content to provide a private enterprise ChatGPT experience using the set of knowledge each user has access to. Our platform is deployed to your private cloud of choice, with zero internal content flowing outside the corporate firewall, and our AI core is powered by your models of choice (including on-premise models).

Atolio is now uniquely the only AI-powered enterprise search solution on the market that works entirely on our clients infrastructure. Providing a safe and secure way to leverage AI.  Providing fine tuned access control where no proprietary data is shipped to a 3rd party provider. All of our system connectors ingest data locally on the clients’ infrastructure. Authors, contributors & permissions are resolved for every document, LLM embeddings are calculated for every object, and every object is stored alongside permissions and collaborator information, built directly into our engine.
